Washburn University invites applications for two Student Success Professional Lecturer positions available. The University Libraries and the Center for Student Success and Retention seek applicants for the First-Generation Specialist/Lecturer and the Ichabod Ignite Specialist/Lecturer who will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment in the Center for Student Success and Retention, emphasizing the successful transition of First-Generation students, students enrolled in the Ichabod Ignite program, and all Washburn students into the University. NASPA nationally recognizes Washburn University as one of its inaugural First Forward institutions for its work with First-Generation students. These are full-time, 12-month positions. The Student Success Professional provides direct service and support to First-Generation or Ichabod Ignite students through comprehensive academic and career planning from the point of admission to graduation. The Student Success Professional provides individualized and group learning strategy support, mentoring and graduation planning to students, monitors student progress towards degree, planning and offering interventions as required, and will teach assigned sections.

Responsibilities :

The responsibilities require a commitment to accurate, proactive, and responsive advising services with the ability to work effectively independently and in teams.

Provide guidance and mentoring to optimize the student experience of First-Generation students and, in turn, improve their student retention rates and on-time graduation.

Deliver services related to orientation, registration, assessment of learning, referral and facilitates student engagement in academic and career planning activities and the life of the university.

Serve an active role in the First-Year Experience (FYE) program, including but not limited to teaching assigned sections of WU101, WU105, WU115 & WU120. Teach one-shot academic workshops focused upon First-Generation or Ichabod Ignite students to help them adapt to the college experience and discover academic success at Washburn.

Develop and deliver presentations to students, faculty and staff to educate them about various programs, policies, and issues related to First-Generation student success.

Pursue professional development opportunities focused on improving academic advising to enhance knowledge and expand effectiveness as a Student Success Professional and member of the CSSR staff.

Serve as a Faculty Advisor to the First-Generation Living Learning Community in collaboration with Residential Living and the WeAreF1rst student organization. Act as an active member of internal unit teams, CSSR and University committees.

Effectively use the Navigate Student Success Software.

Requirements:

• A master's degree from an accredited institution
• Effective communication skills
• Demonstrated experience working effectively independently and in teams
• Proven experience working effectively with individuals of varying academic preparation and from diverse backgrounds

Preferred:

• Experience demonstrated by course work or classroom experience in teaching or college transition programs
  
  
• Experience with assessment of student learning
• Experience in Academic Advising
• First-Generation background
• Spanish fluency
