Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Department of Biology invites applicants to apply for the position of Office Manager. This position coordinates the day-to-day, and long-term general administrative operations of the Department of Biology, using strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies at each organizational and hierarchical level. This position serves as the initial point of contact for general administrative services and support, and for internal technological & web support, coordinating with College and University technology services as needed. The employee is responsible for the proper, effective, and efficient operation of the department’s main office. This includes coordinating with the Department Chair, Accountant, and Administrative/Education Coordinator to plan and carry out the goals of the department. This position also serves as an auxiliary point of contact for basic HR and fiscal support and assists HR and fiscal managers as needed. This position has the primary responsibility of any web presence that represents the department and works with relevant individuals and committees to maintain a relevant and communicative web presence. The employee will also work to upgrade and convert services and resources into electronic formats wherever practical and as needed by the department. This position serves as the point of contact for constructing and formatting course materials, including syllabi, curricula, and assessments for students on behalf of, and in cooperation with instructors. .Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment and deal effectively with a wide variety of people in person, on the phone, or electronically.
.Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
.Demonstrated ability to analyze data and produce summary reports for a variety of audiences.
.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access as well as website construction.
.Ability to keep up with technological changes and apply on the job.
.Ability to provide front-line support for the academic unit. Preferred Hiring Standards
.Prefer Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
.Prefer supervisory experience.
.Previous experience with Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
.Knowledge of the general organization and operation of the College, University, and Biology department.
.Previous experience with card-access control software.
.Possess in-depth knowledge of Banner (HR and Student)
.Possess knowledge of the university, state, and federal policies and procedures as they relate to student affairs and timekeeping.
.Familiarity with undergraduate and graduate student rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Required Licenses/ Certifications Anticipated Hiring Range $35,000 to $40,000 Application Process/Additional Information
