Health Promotion & Education
- Develop and deliver health educational presentations, workshops and group sessions to target populations in the community
- Conduct health education in-person and/or virtually with culturally and linguistically appropriate content
- Lead curriculum-based programming for patients and community members
- Build individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as, community education, learning webinars, and training opportunities
- Take part in community activities designed to allow target populations to access prevention information
- Serve as an ongoing resource for patients and community members in relation to their health goals
- Maintain databases, mailing lists, community contacts and other information to ensure cooperative working relationships with agencies and community partners interested in health education
- Document activities and records information such as presentations conducted, persons assisted, and health assessments completed
- Collaborate with health specialists and civic groups to assess health needs and goals for meeting those needs
- Conduct activities to identify interest and needs (ex. public health surveys)
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing education, health education, community health, public health, health sciences, human services, or other related field OR equivalent education and experience
- Two (2) years of direct health education experience or community engagement experience
- Experience in minority health research and working with Black and Latino populations is required.
- Has reliable transportation to travel within Virginia
- Displays strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environment
- Ability to learn quickly and grasp biomedical and research terminologies
- Experience in disseminating information in scientific and public gatherings
- Capability to train in all aspects required to effectively perform the duties associated with this position, including human subjects protection
- Ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse
populations
- Excellent presentation, communication and facilitation skills
- Well versed in specific health education and/or health industry trends
- Ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines within the health center and community organizations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and virtual applications such as (Zoom, Google Meets, MS Teams, etc.)
- Exceptional patient engagement and patient experience
skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
with multiple levels within the organization
- Excellent grammar, spelling and interpersonal skills.
- Available for extended hours, occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly (30-50 pounds occassionaly)
- Master’s Degree
- Bilingual
