As the largest university library system in the
Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University of Maryland (UMD)
Libraries serve more than 41,000 students and 14,000 faculty and
staff of the flagship College Park campus. The Libraries’ extensive
collections, programs, and services enable student success, support
teaching, research, and creativity, and enrich the intellectual and
cultural life of the community. A member of the Big Ten Academic
Alliance and the Association of Research Libraries, the UMD
Libraries was honored with the 2020 Excellence in Academic
Libraries award in the university category from the Association of
College and Research Libraries.
The Coordinator will elevate awareness of library
services, programs, and initiatives among key audiences and
stakeholders through strategic and creative use of communication
and marketing channels. A member of the Strategic Communications
& Outreach Team and working under the direction of the Director
of Strategic Communications & Outreach, the Coordinator will
work within the collaborative environment of the University of
Maryland Libraries to advance communications goals.
Responsibilities include working with internal programmers to set
and measure marketing goals; overseeing the content strategy for
Libraries’ social media accounts; hiring, training, and supervising
student assistants; coordinating event-based outreach; and
assisting the Director with production of regular and targeted
email communication with stakeholders; copywriting for marketing
materials and news stories; and maintaining website content.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related
field.
At least 2 years of professional experience in
communications.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication
skills.
Strong knowledge of the principles and best practices of digital communications, social media, and marketing strategies. High level of quality control through reviewing, editing, and proofing work.
Ability to manage multiple projects under the pressure of last-minute deadlines and changing priorities.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
Preferences: Working knowledge of principles and practices of training and supervision.
Experience supervising others.
Event planning experience.
Experience using a website content management system. Prior work experience in a higher education or library environment.
