Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada, actively maintains a pool of qualified individuals to be selected from on an as needed basis by the department to fulfill part-time instructional needs for College Transition Math.

The College Transition Math course is an alternative math course option for students who have tested into the Math Skills Center on the Accuplacer exam and want to participate in an in-person classroom course rather than an online program. The primary responsibility is to teach developmental math courses

All students will take the Accuplacer together at the end of the class with the goal that they will test into MATH 095 or above. The class is a four credit class meeting eight hours per week (2 hours per day, Monday through Thursday). Instructors interested in teaching this class need to be interactive, eager to spend extra time supporting students, willing to follow the College Transition Math curriculum in its entirety, have good class management skills and build a strong report with students.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in math, education, or a related field.
2. Six months teaching experience in related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with remedial math, tutoring, or basic education.

Responsibilities
Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

The primary responsibility is to teach college-level and developmental courses. The position provides opportunity for input into scheduling and course assignments.
1. Use and develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods (including exams) to support the rigorous program.
2. Evaluate student work using criteria relevant to the course content and learning objectives.
3. Maintain and submit accurate records to meet published deadlines (i.e., syllabi, attendance).
4. Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that enhance the development of the College Transition Math program.
5. Meet professional development requirements.
6. Attend faculty meetings.
7. Adhere to the prescribed curriculum and standards, and use assigned course texts and materials.

Conditions of Employment
This is a on-going pool of qualified individuals interested in part-time, temporary non-tenure track instructional opportunities at Truckee Meadows Community College.

These opportunities are part-time only and will not be continued beyond the ending date. These opportunities may be terminated at will, at any time, for any reason, without notice; appointee has no appeal rights. Temporary assignments are not eligible for consideration for tenure as part of the assignment.
