The Legal Studies Faculty Director provides vision and leadership for the Undergraduate Legal Studies Program. In addition to teaching, the Faculty Director works with and supervises the Managing Director of Legal Studies to support high-quality instruction, academic advising, career and professional development, and student-focused programming. This position is responsible for the program's growth and success, curriculum planning, budget development, external relations, outreach, and development efforts. The Faculty Director will be engaged in the task of developing a new Legal Studies undergraduate major, and has the overall responsibility for representing the Legal Studies Program within the School of Law and across the University of Oregon campus.
This is a 1.0 FTE, 12-month, fixed-term, career non-tenure track lecturer position that reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. There is an expectation that this position will continue beyond one-year based on performance, funding, and need.
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school or PhD in related
- Prior teaching or work experience
- Demonstrated ability to: work effectively with students, staff,
and faculty from culturally diverse backgrounds and with multiple
intersectional identities; and advance diversity, equity, and
inclusion in the university community
- Strong oral and written communication skills which the ability
to write and speak persuasively
- Strong organizational, administrative, and supervisory
- Strong problem solving and project management skills with
proven ability to strategize and prioritize, to meet goals and
- Ability to work independently, while appropriately
collaborating with others
- Supervisory experience or demonstration of skills that exhibit
- Experience assessing programmatic needs and successfully
implementing new initiatives
