Position Summary:
Eastern Kentucky University Libraries is seeking candidates for our Resident Librarian Program. This newly developed program will provide an opportunity for two entry-level librarians to begin their professional careers, join a community of practice, and develop skills and experience in academic librarianship. This is a three-year placement designed to encourage and promote professional growth and development of recent graduates. It provides a broad-based awareness of principles and practices in academic libraries. The Resident Librarians will report to the Dean of Libraries but will work closely with Directors of teams across the library based on preferences indicated in their application. Resident Librarians will also have counterparts at other libraries and opportunities for networking through the ACRL Diversity Alliance. Residents will build on foundations of academic librarianship through participation in Reference and Instruction activities. Additionally, they will contribute directly to an area of strategic importance for the University Libraries. Resident Librarians will play a key role in the Library's support of the University's diversity, equity and inclusion effort. Applicants do not need to have prior Librarian experience but should show an interest in their preferred specialization area and a desire to learn the skills necessary to be successful on the job. EKU Libraries will support professional development and service activities in the library, on campus, and in the wider academic library community, including conference attendance and opportunities to develop a presentation or publication based on the residents' activities. Peer and campus mentorship opportunities will also be provided.
