Staff Psychologist

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) has an opening for a full-time, 12-month Staff Psychologist/Mental Health Clinician who will provide mental health services for students on Seton Hall University’s Interprofessional Health Sciences (IHS) campus in Nutley, NJ as well as on the main campus in South Orange, NJ. The position will have offices on both campuses and time allocation on each campus will vary based on needs. CAPS provides a full range of multiculturally sensitive counseling services to all university students.

The Staff Psychologist/Mental Health Clinician works as a member of a collaborative team providing both group and time-limited individual counseling, intake assessments, and mental health programming to undergraduate and graduate students. The position also involves providing crisis intervention services during regular business hours as well as frequent consultation with faculty and administrators regarding the well-being of students.

The Staff Psychologist/Mental Health Clinician participates in the department’s doctoral training program as a collaborator and supervisor. The Staff Psychologist/Mental Health Clinician fully participates in a comprehensive program that is designed to enhance student development, foster responsible decision-making, facilitate the sense of campus community, and assure equitable, accessible, and quality clinical care to meet the psychological and developmental needs of students. The position supports the department’s and the University’s strategic initiative and commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all community members. The role requires possession of strong clinical skills, ability to work independently, a demonstrated commitment to working effectively from a multicultural framework, the ability to manage a full client caseload, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology with 2-3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Social Work with 3-5 years of relevant experience;
• Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in New Jersey or Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker;
• Demonstrated competence in time-limited individual psychotherapy as well as group counseling with diverse populations;
• Proven ability and commitment to working within a multiculturally responsive and inclusive counseling lens and successful experience in provision of psychological services to underrepresented and marginalized groups;
• Demonstrated competence in outreach and prevention program planning and implementation;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to function independently;
• Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and stressors facing graduate and professional students;
• Understanding of and willingness to support the Seton Hall University Catholic Mission.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience providing clinical services within college/university counseling;
• Specific areas of expertise and experience relevant to a diverse college student population (e.g., multicultural issues);
• Experience in providing clinical services to students in the medical and allied health fields

Licenses and Certificates:

• Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in New Jersey or Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker;
