Job Description

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, at Virginia Tech, invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, calendar year non-tenure track Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position in Equine Field Services. The position is service oriented and will include management of patients and clients in the Equine Field Service section of the VMRCVM. This will include an emphasis on preventive health care and routine medical, surgical and dental procedures on horses. Positive interaction with local practitioners and referring veterinarians will be essential as will close interaction with the other service based sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital e.g., Large Animal Medicine and Surgery, Diagnostic Services, and the Equine Podiatry Center. Participation in provision of emergency duty on a shared, rotational basis is expected. The successful applicant will also contribute to the management and continued development of the Equine Field Service. This will include, if and where appropriate, participation in faculty governance activities and contribution to the VMCVM outreach programs. Clinical teaching experience, is a desirable attribute for this position. The position consists of didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction in equine medicine and surgery, including preventive health programs. Scholarly activity and participation in collaborative research will be expected for a non-tenure track classification. Appointment will be non-tenure track in the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor with a calendar year appointment type. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The starting date for the position is September 1, 2021. Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and demonstrate experience in equine practice by appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Diplomate status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (or other relevant AVMA specialty) is preferred; however, board eligible candidates or individuals desirous of becoming board certified will be considered. The ideal candidate is likely to have leadership/management experience in an equine practice setting.
