Applications are now being accepted for tenure track faculty positions at the assistant, associate, or full professor level at the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW). All candidates must have an earned doctorate in social work or a related social or health science discipline, and a commitment to exemplary research that yields high quality scholarship with extramural funding potential. The UMSSW is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment, with a focus on diversifying the faculty. With a renewed investment in building diversity, equity, and inclusion in our faculty, research, coursework, and other activities, we are seeking faculty who can contribute to the diversity and excellence in our programs and courses through their research, teaching and service. In particular, we are searching for faculty who employ anti-oppression and racial, social, and economic justice as a lens for their research and teaching.

Faculty with the following areas of research expertise are most strongly encouraged to apply: practice or services research with low-income or under-served individuals and families, particularly youth in schools; research on health and behavioral health disparities; and community-engaged research. An MSW with two years of practice, program, or policy experience is required for teaching MSW courses. Applicants at the associate and full professor level must have substantial evidence of leadership, an innovative research agenda, and competitive extramural support. Senior faculty should also have experience mentoring junior faculty. UMSSW is one of the largest schools of social work and ranks among the top 20 schools of social work in scholarly productivity and reputation. The School is in an ideal location in which to study and teach, and is within walking distance of the offices of many state of Maryland departments and a short distance away from relevant federal government headquarters.

Our School and campus provide an intellectually exciting, collegial, and supportive faculty environment that fosters inter- professional education and interdisciplinary research. Placed on the graduate health and human services campus in Baltimore, the SSW is well integrated with our sister schools (i.e., Medicine, Nursing, Law, Pharmacy, and Dentistry) as well as the University of Maryland Medical System. We have strong intramural funding, and doctoral and post-doctoral programs. We are also deeply involved in community practice and research, with a US Department of Education Promise Neighborhood in nearby West Baltimore and the innovative and endowed Social Work Community Outreach Service. We have an abiding commitment to increasing social justice and equity through an anti-racist approach, which is being amplified under new leadership at the School.
