Position Summary:

The School Mental Health Training Specialist is a dynamic position that will work in conjunction with the School Supplement Coordinator for the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies (CHESS). This program focuses on mental health work in schools. In collaboration with other colleagues, the SMH Specialist develops and delivers training, consultation, coaching services as well as products and tools to increase the capacity of the school mental health workforce. The SMH Specialist will work directly with school leadership teams, district staff, and state department of education personnel.

The SMH Specialist will be part of the Great Lakes Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC). The Great Lakes MHTTC provides training and technical assistance in the NIATx model of process improvement, which assists behavioral health organizations to identify and address problems in their work processes, speed up and sustain the adoption of evidence-based practices, and reduce barriers to treatment.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required in a related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Must have two or more years of professional experience in a mental health field. Experience in a school-based mental health environment and knowledge of evidence-based best practices in schools is required. Qualified applicants will have strong leadership skills, initiative, and creativity to develop innovative trainings and solutions. This position will work with a wide range of stakeholders (school leadership teams, district staff, and state department of education personnel) so the ability to communicate with, and build rapport individually and in groups is a must. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs is expected. Must have the ability to travel (after federal, state, and UW travel restrictions are lifted).

The ideal candidate will have these additional preferred skills/experience:
-Passion and experience supporting equity, inclusion, social justice, and cultural competency in schools
-Experience addressing social determinants of health at the root causes of mental health issues
-Experience taking a strengths-based approach
-Success with implementing a change project that was "outside of the box" for schools
-Must be able to form strong connections and relationships, especially through virtual learning platforms
-Experience with crises both in theory and in practice and be well versed in leadership approaches to school community transformation
-Website skills are a plus but not required

This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. We are currently waiting for an official remote work policy from the College of Engineering. If remote work is allowed, the individual hired and supervisor can discuss the possibility of part time remote work.
