Job Summary

Monitors, directs, and participates in custodial and/or housekeeping activities in Auburn University facilities and buildings. This position provides supervision and leadership for the evening shift building specialists. The person in this position assigns duties, conducts regular meetings, conducts performance review evaluations, will assess work and take corrective action as needed. They will also identify facility maintenance defects and apply the appropriate action for correction, as well as report inventory needs ie: supplies and tools needed for building upkeep. They will maintain an adequate supply of materials to allow building specialists to execute their duties. Inspects meeting room set-ups and provides audio visual support.

Working hours: 3:30pm – 12:00pm

Essential Functions

-Assigns and prioritizes duties to employees to ensure facilities and buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.

-Inspects work areas for the use of proper methods and materials.

-Oversees maintenance, dispensing, and procurement of equipment and supplies.

-Maintains a clean and safe working environment by participating in custodial, floor maintenance, and/or housekeeping activities.

-Assists with major event planning and provides supervision for transition details and clean-up.

-Answers questions and addresses complaints concerning performed work within assigned facilities/buildings.

-Maintains and verifies employees’ hours worked and leave used.

-Collaborates with other departments.

-Calls in work orders as needed.

-Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of safe and proper use of chemicals and cleaning materials needed for custodial services. Developed supervisory skills. Ability to operate floor equipment (buffers, extractors, steam cleaners); and lift heavy furniture and equipment. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Minimum Technology Skills

Minimum License and Certifications

Valid driver’s license required.

Desired Qualifications

Five years’ experience in custodial care techniques and directly supervising full-time employees. Basic computer skills.
