Research Technician

Engineering & Computing College: Research Technician to assist in conducting industrial biotechnology research in the areas of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology for the Jones research group. This role will consist of a mix of laboratory management, training of student research assistants, and empirical research as directed by the lab PI. The position is funded through a sponsored research agreement between Miami University and PsyBio Therapeutics, Inc. (psybiolife.com) and will be a 1-year term with the mutual option for renewal contingent on performance and funding availability.

Research Technician will assist in conducting industrial biotechnology research in the areas of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology and to play a key role on a project to enhance the production of bioactive small molecules from a variety of microbial hosts. A wide range of technologies will be used to develop enhanced strains and processes including, but not limited to, transcriptional and translational pathway optimization, media optimization, fed-batch bioreactor optimization, as well as conventional metabolic engineering assisted by the development of novel synthetic biology tools. The work will involve a wide range of technologies used to develop enhanced strains and bioprocesses including, but not limited to, transcriptional and translational pathway optimization, media optimization, fed-batch bioreactor optimization, as well as conventional metabolic engineering assisted by the development of novel synthetic biology tools.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related areas by date of appointment; 0-1 years of experience in a laboratory setting, experience with microbial fermentation, and familiarity with a range of molecular cloning techniques. Applicant must have strong organizational capability, experience with data analysis and presentation, and strong communication skills.

Consideration will be given to candidates with 5+ years of relevant post-graduation experience, understanding of lab-scale bioreactor operation, metabolite analysis by HPLC and LCMS, chromosomal integration in bacteria, comparative genomics, and yeast genetics.
