The Clinical Supervisor provides individual supervision for two to three Master’s-level intern counselors-in-training at a busy university counseling center. This role provides administrative and managerial support to counseling supervisees required to deliver effective client treatment and developing their professional capacity as counselors. The Clinical Supervisor also contributes to group supervision and training within a developmentally focused Master’s Training Program. Work is performed on-site for weekly training activities. Review of clinical notes and meetings with supervisees may be done remotely or in-person.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Key Accountability #1: Individual Clinical Supervision (70% of effort)
• Provide one hour of individual supervision each week to assigned intern supervisees.
• Sign off on trainee notes within a reasonable time frame, no more than 1 week from submission.
• Provide clinical supervision for intern-level trainees in alignment with best practices, upholding policies, procedures, forms, contracts, and agreements of NSCC and MTP.
• Oversee all aspects of supervisees practice to ensure high-quality care of client service delivery.
• Assess and develop trainees’ in four core areas to ensure quality client care and trainee’s internalization of counselor practice and responsibilities: administrative effectiveness, professional identity, clinical skills based in a coherent theoretical orientation, rooted in the self of the clinician.
• Regularly provide verbal and written feedback and evaluation of supervisees.
• Provide ad hoc supervision for supervisees in response to client crisis situations at a level that ensures effective client care.
• Review supervisee charting and notes weekly.
• Accurately assess and match supervisee level.
• Proactively address performance management of supervisees.
• Maintain weekly documentation of supervision provided.
• Ensure supervisees deliver services that align with Counseling and Wellness policies and procedures, college counseling standards of practice, and laws and ethics of field.
• Support supervisees’ professional and clinical learning by reviewing, commenting on notes, observing sessions, offering resources to support diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, intervention and treatment planning, and overall professional clinical development.
• Attend to supervisees’ holistic development including self-care, caseload management, attention to other areas relevant to the sustainable practice of the profession.
• Consult and meet periodically for requisite and ad hoc meetings with supervisees’ academic support professionals.
• Approve client intakes in individual and group supervision.
•Maintain and uphold clear written clinical documentation according to laws, ethics, and college counseling standards of practice.
Key Accountability #2: Training (20% of effort)
• Demonstrate ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

• Positively represent NSCC and MTP to a variety of stakeholders.
• Model counselor and clinical supervisor-level professional identity, administrative effectiveness, clinical skills rooted in coherent theoretical orientation, self-awareness and maturity, clinical judgment, ethical decision making, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and client/student-centered care throughout work.
• Develop trainees basic counseling skills (diagnosis, assessment, interventions, treatment planning, crisis interventions, MI, DBT, trauma informed counseling, laws and ethics, and other topics as requested) during orientation and training day events and activities as requested by Senior Director.
• Co-facilitate group supervision with Senior Director.
• Facilitate cohesion across MTP elements by tracking, integrating, and reinforcing MTP core themes, expectations, and goals in individual supervision and Training Day.
Key Accountability #3: Furthering Projects and Collaboration (10% of effort)
• Give and receive feedback re trainee strengths and struggles during weekly meetings with the Senior Director; collaborate to strategize and plan ways to further address trainee challenges in individual and group supervision.
• Add value to NSCC/ Counseling and Wellness team life and meetings.
• Pursue development of skills and competencies necessary for effective performance in role.
• Work on other projects as assigned.
Educational degree/diploma required:
• Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or Marriage and Family therapy
Minimum length of prior relevant professional experience required:
• 4 years in a health services administrative role.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other typical office software programs
• Proficiency with electronic medical or counseling record software
• Prior experience working and maintaining high levels of confidential information in a small community
• Fluency with standard office computer applications, including databases and the capacity to quickly master new technology as required

• Experience contributing to a clinical placement training program

General Supervision: The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities. Additional, specific instructions are given for new, difficult, or unusual assignments. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments. The supervisor ensures that the work is technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures.
