Department Summary
The Physical Education and Recreation Department (PE and Rec) plays a vital role at the University of Oregon in educating, engaging, and inspiring the campus community to live active, balanced lives! As part of the Division of Student Life, we expand learning beyond the classroom and facilitate positive experiences to support physical, emotional, and social wellbeing, as well as student success. The Department is comprised of four primary areas, each headed by an Associate Director:
1. Recreation Programs (intramural sports, fitness, aquatics, rock wall, informal recreation, special programs & youth sports camps)
2. Physical Education (academic course curriculum)
3. Facilities
4. Business and Operations (assessment, development, marketing and business services, and facility operations)

Position Summary
The Coordinator of Facilities is responsible for the administration of custodial operations for the Department of Physical Education and Recreation (PE & Rec). This includes direct supervision of 8 in-house custodial staff and contractors in the performance of sanitation and labor needs to ensure customer service, safety, cost effectiveness, timeliness, sanitation code compliance and adherence to industry standards and practices.
This position performs inspections and surveys to gather information for maintenance needs to improve PE & Rec facilities. Scope of facilities includes the Student Recreation Center (a multi-purpose recreation/physical education facility) and three satellite facilities (Gerlinger Hall/Annex, Mac Court, and Student Tennis Center) that are shared among other departments/entities.
The Coordinator of Facilities ensures a safe and service friendly environment for all who participate in the facilities and programs of the Department of Physical Education and Recreation.
The Coordinator makes decisions on work priorities, necessary supplies and equipment, the means of accomplishing duties, training requirements and delivery of required custodial trainings, and personal and public safety. Work productivity as well as safety of self, co-workers, and facility users is affected by these decisions.
The ability to work a flexible schedule including early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
This position reports to the Associate Director for Facilities and works cooperatively and collaboratively with PE and Rec staff, all members of the Facilities and Operations team, and other institutional stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements - Four years of personnel supervisory experience with service
staff
- Two years of custodial services experience in a commercial
setting
- CPR and 1st Aid certification or the ability to obtain within
six months of employment
Professional Competencies - Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working
effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support
of an inclusive and welcoming environment
- Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel,
e-mail, database tracking, and maintenance management
system)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills along with
customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications - A comprehensive understanding of university recreation center
facility operations and services
- Two years of experience overseeing laundry equipment and
services
- One year of demonstrated experience working with schedule
management systems
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree
