Assistant IPM Grounds Specialist

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The specialist will oversee pest management using biological, cultural, mechanical, physical and chemical controls with an emphasis on the least toxic methods. The Assistant IPM Grounds Specialist performs pest management practices to our indoor/outdoor campus structures such as but not limited to: grass, turf, flowers, trees etc. as well as documents structural, procedural and maintenance practices. The Assistant IPM Grounds Specialist will monitor pest incidence and apply pesticides as necessary. The Assistant IPM Specialist will also aid with any other land scape duties on campus as assigned. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree and two years of related experience or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.

ISA Certification to be obtained within the first year of employment. Must be able to maintain certification through out employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of plant names, landscape use, and cultural requirements.
  • Knowledge of correct pesticide use.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Skills in operation of landscape and chemical application equipment.
  • Skills in training and supervision of hourly employees.
  • Skills in time and resource management.
  • Ability to diagnose plant conditions, cultural needs, and recommend treatment.


Preferred Qualifications:
IPM certification is favorable however its optional as you will work in coordination/under Lead IPM specialist regarding chemicals and spraying.

Physical Requirements:
Lifting up to 25 pounds is frequent. Very active physical movement and ability. Standing and walking for long periods of time.
