About the Opportunity:
The Office of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) at Northeastern University School of Law (NUSL) oversees all operational aspects of a full-time, year-round, academic legal program and serves as the hub of student life and support for the School of Law. The Director of Academic Advising & Operations is an integral member of the ASA team, charged with enhancing the mission of the office to provide high-quality service and support to a diverse population of students enrolled in School of Law programs, including the JD program, LLM program, certificate programs, and all dual-degree programs.

This position independently manages department initiatives and has broad authority and oversight responsibility in related matters, including academic advising, student support, student orientation and events, student activities, enrollment management, and other related programs. This position manages operations and communications for the Office of Academic & Student Affairs and is responsible for identifying, planning, implementing and sustaining new processes and programs to support student success and operational efficiency. This position routinely interfaces with campus partners to assess and resolve challenges affecting students and must apply high-level knowledge of student services administration and innovative problem-solving skills to devise and implement solutions.

This position directly supervises a full-time Assistant Director of Student Advising and Engagement, a Coordinator for Academic & Student Affairs, and several work-study positions that support the day-to-day administrative needs of the Office of Academic & Student Affairs

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position fall into three main categories:

Academic Operations: Oversee the design, implementation, and management of the operations workflow for the ASA office and tracking of student data. In conjunction with Assistant Dean, assess administrative challenges that arise affecting students, faculty or staff and investigate alternatives, devise and implement solutions. Manage annual reporting on enrollment and bar passage for the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the American Bar Association. Develop and implement systems for academic tracking including graduation requirements, academic probation requirements, dual degree enrollment, and concentration completion. Other related duties as assigned.

Academic Advising: Lead the development, strategy, implementation, and assessment of the academic advising programming for law students. Serve as one of the core academic advisors at the School of Law, and supervise an Assistant Director who also serves as an academic advisor. Serve as liaison between School of Law and the University Registrar's Office for matters related to registration, course management, and grades. Other related duties as assigned.

Student Affairs: Manage student crises and student life concerns, as needed. Manage the budgets for student organizations, the Student Bar Association (SBA), and the Cooperative Income Sharing Project (CISP). Serve as primary logistician for Law Student Orientation planning and implementation. Manage contracts processing for all student events in conjunction with the Office of General Counsel and in accordance with University policy. Develop, plan, and direct a variety of comprehensive programs in direct response to student needs. Manage the Opportunities for Student Distinction (OSD) program. Oversee department's communications strategy, including website development and Weekly Wire newsletter. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Five to eight years' related experience, preferably in an academic and student-facing setting, required. Master's degree or Doctorate in Higher Education Administration, College Student Affairs, or related field required. Candidates with a Juris Doctor degree will also be considered. Experience working with college or graduate/professional students strongly preferred.

Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are critical. The Director must be a thoughtful and creative problem-solver who works cooperatively with various constituencies within the School of Law and the University. The Director must be able to juggle multiple competing priorities and meet firm deadlines. The ability to serve as public representative for the office in student programming and other initiatives is important. The job requires an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and a high level of comfort using online data management systems, including Salesforce, Banner, and Argos. Strong organizational skills are required, as are dependability, professionalism, and attention to detail. The Director must be efficient, self-directed, and able to make independent judgments and develop and implement new programs, systems and procedures. A demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced office environment with competing demands is required. Commitment to student development and customer service a must.
