Rutgers Law School is hiring an Assistant Dean of New Programs
About Rutgers Law School (RLS)
Two schools, each with distinctive strengths, have come together to create one law school with extraordinary opportunities for learning experiences and career growth. With locations in Camden and Newark—RLS offers a world-class faculty; a curriculum of exceptional breadth and depth in theory, practice, and interdisciplinary studies; a geographic presence that spans one of the nation’s 10 largest legal markets (New Jersey) while also offering immediate access to two of the five largest markets (New York City and Philadelphia); an alumni network with over 20,000 members; and a strong tradition of diversity and social impact. As the law school for a top public university, RLS is committed to the highest standards of teaching, scholarship, and service to its host communities, the state of New Jersey, and the nation.
About the Position
This is a newly created position at RLS. The goal of this
position is to identify, create, and administer revenue-generating
programs for RLS outside of the traditional, domestic JD
program. That revenue might come from new topic-specific
certificate or micro-credential programs, executive education,
international programming, and/or other classes that are attractive
to lawyers and/or non-lawyers.
This person will be responsible for thinking strategically about
what opportunities exist given the current landscape of other
revenue-generating programs, market demand, and capacity within and
without the law school to deliver the programs. This person will
work with the administration and with the faculty to determine
which programs should be developed, what capacity the law school
has to staff the programs, and what makes sense for
the RLS brand. This person will coordinate with, but will
not be responsible for, Continuing Legal Education programs, or
with activities of the various Centers at Rutgers Law
School.
In addition to identifying and developing these new,
revenue-generating programs, this person will be responsible for
staffing and administering the programs. This includes identifying
potential teachers, marketing, managing admissions, helping develop
the curriculum (potentially in conjunction with relevant faculty),
supervising the teachers, working with university and law school
administrators to ensure optimal registration, and other day-to-day
operations. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will have to identify
and obtain authority to grant certificates or other credentials (if
part of the program) from the university and any relevant
accreditors.
To the extent that this person identifies foreign programs as a
relevant target, the person will work closely with leadership,
staff, and the faculty, in particular the Non-JD and Foreign
Programs Committee that supports faculty governance in this area,
to advance the programmatic objectives of these initiatives and the
overall mission of the Law School.
Must work closely with relevant leadership, staff, faculty, the
faculty Committees, and external stakeholders, including alumni/ae,
employers.
