Position Overview:

This position is classified as a 10-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities. This position is eligible to accrue sick leave at a rate of 10 hours each month, but will not accrue vacation leave. The coach will provide daily instruction to student-athletes to increase their knowledge and understanding of the sport. Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition. Plan, organize and conduct practice sessions. Educate and enforce safety rules and regulations. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. Educate individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular sport. Evaluate athletes' skill level and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport. Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations for their respective sport program.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Recruiting The associate head coach will be responsible for maintaining the UCO Women's Soccer recruiting database along with organizing/assisting with on-campus visits and using social media platforms to enhance recruiting and evaluating prospects at various events on/off campus.
  • Practice and Program Planning The associate head coach will work in conjunction with the head coach to plan training sessions during the championship and non-championship seasons. The associate head coach will assist with social media efforts, help with travel planning, prepare scouting reports of opponents, assist with paperwork, field setup, locker room preparation, hosting of visiting team on game days. The associate head coach will also assist with on field coaching during training sessions and competition.
  • Student-Athlete Development The associate head coach will assist in student-athlete development (academically, socially, and athletically), complete required paperwork for NCAA compliance, and work closely with academic services to monitor academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Fundraising and Donor Relations The associate head coach will maintain the fundraising database, assist with various fundraising efforts through contacting potential donors and organizing events on/off campus. The associate head coach will maintain the alumni database, produce newsletter, and organize alumni night during the season. The associate head coach will also assist with planning of annual alumni game/weekend.
  • Community Service The associate head coach will contact the UCO community partners to organize service projects throughout the course of the year.

The Associate Head Coach will work with the Assistant Registrar/NCAA Academic Eligibility as well as the following departments/personnel on an on-going bases: General Counsel, Center for Counseling and Well-Being, Student Affairs, Disability Support Services, Advisement, Housing, Dining, and Financial Aid to name a few. Handling a lot of the internal operations for the women's soccer program, the recipient will engage with many entities across campus and within the community. In addition, the recipient will work with Institutional Advancement for fundraisers. Coach will interact with academic advisers while trying to help student-athletes raise their GPAs and, or graduate. The Coach will have an opportunity to sit in on conference calls and, if applicable, assist in the bidding process for hosting regional tournaments.

Selected candidate will have to meet all requirements as specified in the DII Coaching Enhancement Grant .


Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts of collegiate sports programs. Requires the application of expertise in the sport to achieve results. Coaching experience with planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Commitment to developing a successful program with a high level of integrity. Must be detail-oriented and organized in the administration of financial matters, travel plans, schedule development and oversight of the sport program. Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification must be provided. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.

Post Hire: Employee must complete and pass the designated educational modules on Division II University within a 14-day consecutive-calendar time period from the initial date of employment at UCO to recruit off-campus and to direct, supervise or observe countable athletically related activities (CARA) involving student-athletes.

Experience Preferred:

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience conducting practices and game management.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience in hiring, supervising and evaluating coaches and staff.
  • Experience working successfully with students, faculty, community and media.
  • Experience developing and administering summer camps and clinics.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.


Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to women's soccer rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to actively recruit and attract qualified student-athletes to campus and motivate them academically and athletically. Demonstrated excellence in professional/interpersonal communication.
