The Memory and Language Lab in the Department of Psychology at Colby College is hiring a part-time, temporary, grant funded research assistant with benefits. The assistant will support the research ongoing in the lab, from data collection and management to scheduling and coordinating research sessions. This is a temporary appointment for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on performance and funding. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in daily operation of the research lab
  • Assist in training and supervision of student research assistants
  • Maintenance of lab website
  • Facilitate lab management, including maintenance and ordering of supplies
  • Recruit participants, schedule testing sessions, and maintain participant database
  • Hold testing and recruitment sessions on and off-site
  • Administration of psychological assessment protocols
  • Oversee Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
  • Collect, score, code, and analyze data
  • Compile and assist with the preparation of documents (e.g., posters, presentations)
  • Literature searches and manuscript support
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience, psychology degree preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative style
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to help
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Prior research (minimum 1 year) experience in psychology (preferably cognitive psychology)
  • Experience using specialized software (i.e., SPSS, Gorilla, E-Prime)
  • Prior coursework in cognitive psychology, statistics and research methods, and computer science
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision
  • Maine state driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety guidelines; reliable transportation and a willingness to travel locally
  • Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
  • Ability to work in PC and Mac platforms preferred
  • Programming skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SPSS and WordPress
  • Familiarity with APA-style
  • Experience testing human participants in research protocols (including aging populations)


KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has significant interaction with supervisors, students, faculty and staff, as well as other constituents.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, and twisting may be required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
