Position Summary:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the remote operation of Transportation Services parking equipment throughout campus by assisting customers and transportation staff with any gate related issues. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for parking data collection, technical and mechanical data collection and entering work orders for system repairs into the Transportation Services Booths Tracking System. To meet these responsibilities, the incumbent must have the ability to operate computerized equipment, understand dispatch methodology including but not limited to intercom usage, camera and digital voice recorder (DVR) operation, basic email and two-way radio usage. This position requires the ability to prioritize and respond to each call in a timely manner. In addition, this position will also operate and maintain parking booths and other paid parking facilities on UW Madison campus.

Good public relations skills are imperative due to the volume and flow of customers. The ability to maintain positive customer relations in person and or over the intercom in difficult situations is essential. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of customer service to the general public helping to resolve complaints, parking gate system issues and work with other operation units within the department to solve parking problems on campus. This position functions closely with other staff to work as a team.

- Ability to work at rates of 100-150 customers per hour during peak periods.
- Ability to observe and identify emergency situations so that appropriate action may be taken.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and organize work.
- Ability to understand the scheduling procedures and assign and schedule staff to insure full coverage of all parking facilities.
- Ability to learn T2 gated system, Skidata gated system, intercom calling system, UW Transport Services camera and DVR system.
- Ability to communicate with all Transportation Services staff via two-way radio using the correct terminology in all radio transmissions.
- Ability to understand the confidential, safety and auditing concerns and procedures for handling daily cash, validations and time reports for all university public parking lots and ramps.
- Ability to work under adverse weather conditions such as severe cold, extreme heat, rain, snow, and ice; lift up to 30 pounds; bend, stoop, twist, carry, kneel, reach, push, pull; sweep and shovel snow.
