The Department of Health, Behavior & Society seeks aSenior Research Assistant who will support mixed-methods data collection and data analysis activities for several substance use related studies occurring in Maryland including the Optimizing PrEP Among Women and Their Long-Term Partners (OPAL) study. The Sr. Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and each study team. The Sr. Research Assistant should have knowledge and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, community-based research, public health, and familiarity with issues and topics of importance to vulnerable substance using populations in Baltimore City. This is a full-time position that can be conducted remotely during COVID-19 until on-campus work is authorized by Johns Hopkins University.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct literature reviews
  • Develop and maintain protocols and materials for IRB review
  • Manage, merge, clean, and maintain data, datasets, and databases
  • Lead qualitative data activities, including moderating of focus group discussions and conducting of qualitative interviews
  • Contribute to analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Participate in development and implementation processes of research projects
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of study data
  • Prepare summaries and reports of study activities for diverse audiences and stakeholders, including manuscript development
  • Train and manage student team members
  • Coordinate and lead study meetings
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication among team members

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • 2 years of related experience required
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health or a related field
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable populations in a research setting
  • One (1) year of related experience in Public Health or related field

Technical Qualifications/Specialized Certifications:

  • Database management; qualitative data analysis skills in Dedoose

JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
