A research scientist position is available immediately in the Department of
Forensic Science at Virginia Commonwealth University as part of an
externally funded grant from the National Institute of Justice. The primary
responsibility will be to lead laboratory efforts focused on genetic analysis
of forensically relevant biological samples, utilizing expertise in human
identification, qPCR, high resolution melt analysis, and microdevice design
and processing. Experience with microchip design, microfluidics, and/or
forensic DNA profiling techniques are highly preferred. The candidate will
work closely with project PI as well as undergraduate and graduate
students at VCU as part of a multidisciplinary research team. Candidates
will be expected to work independently and prepare peer-reviewed
publications, reports and conference presentations from this work.
Additionally, the candidate will be expected to help provide general
laboratory management including grant managment, student training, and
instrument maintenance. Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field. Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate would have a background in cellular biology, molecular
biology, microdevice design/engineering, and forensic DNA profiling, and
have familiarity with forensic casework applications. Applicants with only
some of these skills/experiences are encouraged to apply. Applicants who are
in the process of completing their PhD within the next two months or who
