Position Summary

The Compensation Analyst performs high-level and highly responsible professional work collecting, compiling, and analyzing compensation and benefits data, metrics, and statistics, researches and evaluates job requirements and job positions, and applies this data to make recommendations related to designing the College’s pay structure, individual position compensation recommendations, and any other areas as directed to ensure the College is competitive and equitable in the area of salaries and employee benefits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Analysis, Designing and Developing and Implementation

Collects and compiles compensation and benefits metrics and data from a variety of sources including the human resource information system (HRIS) and payroll outputs, employment records, local, state and federal labor statistics, peer data, external compensation-related data and statistics and other sources.

Develops and implements equitable job analysis instrument and materials; interviews and surveys employees and managers to gather and document job, organizational, and occupational information including duties, responsibilities, and skills required by each job.

Assesses compensation practices of the College, analyses for any structural deficiencies related to equitable practices and recommends alterations.

Prepares and maintains job descriptions for each position in the organization; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents.

Benchmarks jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position. Gathers data from market-based compensation surveys; utilizes technology and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends. Prepares and maintains job classifications and salary scales.

Assesses jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt and appropriate salary range.

Conducts data and cost analyses to be used in employee negotiations and collective bargaining agreements.

Researches employee benefits and total rewards in similar industries; based on findings, makes recommendations to HR Leadership on the College’s existing benefits, rewards, and/or policies.

Researches and recommends to HR Leadership plans and preferred methods and best practices for compensating employees related to merit/pay increases, bonuses, etc.

Advises leadership on applicable state and federal employment regulations benefits and compensation policies, human resource procedures, and collective bargaining agreements as required. Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.

Performs compensation audits as needed.

Customer Service, Reporting & Communication

Manages and utilizes all systems available in HR to track and measure deliverables for the College, including updating content, coordinating updates with vendors as needed and responding to employee questions and issues related to the Analyst’s functions.

Partners with key stakeholders, such as managers/supervisors, HR team, internal partners, Office of Diversity, Department of Institutional Effectiveness, etc. to answer questions, solve problems and generate reports.

Conducts focus groups as necessary to collect employee feedback on specific issues or topics related to benefits and compensation.

Prepares and presents summary reports to HR Leadership of job analysis and compensation analysis information along with recommendations for plan design and structure.

Assists leadership with reporting and presenting recommendations to executive leadership, employee groups, etc. as required.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Attends all required department meetings and training. Hours may include evenings and Saturdays and a varying schedule as required based on operation need. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Ensures College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders.


Usual Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position are those typically expected in an office environment. While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly sits, stands or walks for extended periods of time. Employee regularly uses hands to handle and count currency. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.


Working Conditions

Typical office working conditions with occasional exposure to security threats.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite or related software at a high level, including but not limited to Excel, Access (expert levels). Expert in statistical analysis and various software packages, highly advanced features of database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs. Extensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods and HR laws, regulations and best practices. Knowledge of HRIS.

Skill in: interpersonal relationships and communication; analytical and problem solving; attention to detail; maintaining documentation and records; verbal and written communications; presentations to all levels of employees within the organization; high level of skill in generally accepted accounting principles; maintaining good public relations; customer service; operating general office equipment; general typing; application of standard office practices and procedures; interpreting and implementing data involving federal, state and common policies and procedures as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in human resources or related field. Three (3) years of experience in compensation analysis, structure development and administration. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
