About the Position:
The Dean of Students office promotes academic integrity, civility, and other appropriate standards of conduct for the University community. Our office is also responsible for investigating alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code and for adjudicating complaints in a fair and consistent manner. We are searching for a Care and Conduct Coordinator (Student Services Professional III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Student Conduct and the Associate Dean for Care Services, the Care and Conduct Coordinator independently provides services and support for students in distress and those referred for allegations of misconduct. Through referrals, consultations, assessments, and interventions, the Care and Conduct Coordinator extends services to students who experience difficulties related to academic, emotional, behavioral, or university-related distress. Additionally, the Care and Conduct Coordinator meets, investigates, and adjudicates allegations of student misconduct, weighs evidence, conducts administrative reviews or disciplinary hearings, assigns, and monitors effective support referrals and educational sanctions, as appropriate. The Care and Conduct Coordinator facilitates campus-wide training and outreach efforts to faculty, staff, and students on behalf of the Dean of Students Office. Contributes assessment and evaluation information to the Dean of Students Annual Report. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.

Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Two to three years of professional, post-graduate work in student affairs, preferably with students of concern, student conduct, or in crisis; students who experience basic needs difficulties.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple interactions. Demonstrate an understanding of student development theory into practice and diversity and equity related issues pertaining college students. Ability to work independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform daily and long-range activities. Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of department and University policies and procedures to effectively support the operation of the department. Knowledge of student conduct and cares services—experience working with Maxient or record management system/software.
