Job Description

The ASU Interplanetary Initiative seeks an Academic Success Coordinator for our new on-ground and online Bachelor of Science in Technological Leadership degree program, which launched in Fall 2020. In addition to providing on-the-job work experience through internships, the degree provides students with essential skills in critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and teamwork, communication, coding, math, and the foundations of leadership to drive innovation and effectiveness in the workplace. 

As the Academic Success Coordinator, you will act as a highly skilled resource in promoting student retention, success, and graduation. You will work collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services across the university to facilitate comprehensive student support through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies. This position reports to the Interplanetary Initiative’s Director of Learning.

 

Salary Range

$39,744 - $55,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Provide personalized, intentional, and holistic advising support to online and on-ground Technological Leadership students to ensure ongoing success.
  • Provide guidance and advice to students related to degree progression and completion, including but not limited to: choosing a making pathway, internship placement, exploring minors and certificates, extracurricular activities, and research opportunities.
  • Connect students with appropriate resources including, but not limited to: tutoring, coaching, counseling, career services, and success coaches.
  • Work collaboratively with academic units and university offices services to provide individualized and timely student support and follow-up. 
  • Analyze and leverage a variety of university data to identify trends, promote academic success and ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and successful progress to completion.
  • Identify challenges facing students, and offer appropriate support and outreach to students who are experiencing challenges in multiple facets of their university experience.
  • Utilize and demonstrate fluency with a wide range of relevant and appropriate software, student development theory, and retention focused strategies. 
  • Drive student and degree initiatives with holistic understanding of the Interplanetary Initiative’s mission and goals. Act as a leader to coordinate academic success programs or advising policy development and implementation.
  • Serve as the Unit Scheduler for Interplanetary Initiative courses and classrooms. 
  • Coordinate various programs and projects directed to the retention and success of the student population, including, but not limited to, student engagement events and initiatives, onboarding processes and experiences, and recruitment efforts.
  • As required, act as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success.
  • As required, attend and/or present at orientation events, recruitment trainings, Interplanetary Initiative public meetings, and other relevant workshops. 
  • As required, supervise/support Academic Success Advisors and/or student employees in the successful execution of their duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Advising Coordinator retention, graduation, and academic planning; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
  • Experience demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Experience applying the principles, techniques and methods of teamwork, compromise and collaboration to produce desired outcomes.
  • Experience interpreting student needs and determining when referral to other University resources is appropriate.
  • Experience with internet-based software tools, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Experience using student information systems such as PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and DARS.
  • Experience providing analysis of data for identification of trends.
  • Experience with course and classroom scheduling systems and processes.
  • Experience with rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies and methods.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, faculty and other interested parties.
  • Experience working effectively in a startup-like environment and/or an environment subject to rapidly changing priorities. 
  • Experience building new student-facing processes and programs from the ground up.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic programs, colleges, and departments university-wide.

 

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts, coping with moderate stress levels, along with the requirements to complete tasks within set time constraints and frequently changing priorities.
  • Requires some attendance at evening and weekend events.
