Position Overview Marquette University is seeking qualified and
interested candidates for the position of Assistant Director,
Athletic Communications, assisting primarily with the media
relations and communications functions for the sports of women’s
basketball, men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and cross country (men’s
and women’s). Duties and Responsibilities 1. Primary media and
sports information contact for women’s basketball, men’s soccer,
women’s lacrosse and cross country
2. Play a lead role in the Athletics Department’s social media and content production efforts
3. Promote the University through Athletics
4. Act as liaison between the assigned sports and all media outlets.
5. Preparation and dissemination of news releases and statistical information
6. Arrange content gathering for athletic events, including but not limited to photo, video and social
7. Update Athletics Department website
8. Assist with the communications tasks associated with the nationally recognized men’s basketball program
9. Develop and submit nominations for athletics awards
10. Manage and train student assistants
11. Direct smooth and efficient game-day operations for assigned sports
12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in journalism, communications or related field
• Minimum of 3-5 years athletic communications experience.
• Extensive proficiency in content production and desktop publishing including
• Adobe Creative Suite and QuarkXPress.
• Outstanding editing, writing and verbal skills.
• Some experience in video production and graphic design.
• Working knowledge of NCAA approved statistical procedures and programs (NCAA LiveStats and StatCrew) for assigned sports.
• Season travel from August to April with in-season sports. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Sidearm (website editing system)
• QuarkExpress (desktop editing)
• StatCrew (in-game statistical software)
• Photoshop and video editing software
