The nationally recognized Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine has anexciting opportunity for aClinical Nurse to provide clinical support for physicians,coordinate clinical programs in the Division and in multi‐disciplinary cooperation withthe Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and to serve as a liaison for the Division with departmental and institutional leadership

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinic Support:

  • Assist JH PACT (including physicians in both the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) faculty with Epic InBasket management (results, advice requests, prescription refills)
  • Triage clinical or problem patient calls at the request of physicians or MOC
  • Assist physicians in contacting patients with test results, as directed
  • Pend orders for prescriptions to be signed by physicians
  • Contact patients to get clarification on medication dosing or clinical problem
    and discuss recommendations with physicians
  • Assist with prior authorization requests
  • Enter or pend orders for infusion testing
  • Attend outpatient telemedicine clinics with PCCM and PM&R faculty
    members (at the discretion of the Clinical Directors) to assist with
    prescription refills, laboratory testing, patient education, and coordination of
    care.

Clinical Program Coordination

  • JH PACT Program
    • Maintain logs of patient screening, treatments and visits
    • Coordinate and implement multidisciplinary activities for the
    • Evaluation and treatment of patients following COVID‐19 infection
    • Triage patients referred to the JH PACT program
    • Data entry, management and calculations using computerized
    • Database, word processing and spreadsheet software; review data input for accuracy and completeness
    • Have initiative in anticipating and responding to program needs based on awareness of routine and repeated job functions
    • Actively communicate and update supervising coordinators, collaborators, administrators, clinicians and/or and program leaders on patient enrollment/treatment/eligibility and data collection status via verbal and written communication
    • Organize and file patient records; prepare and maintain program materials
    • Screening and hiring new clinical program staff
    • Ensure clinical program staff are adequately trained, and assessed
      using quality assurance procedures, to perform their work related
      duties
    • Take initiative and anticipate and respond to staff and patient needs
      based on awareness of routine and repeated job functions
    • Demonstrate and serve as a role model for a positive work
      environment, including high motivation, positive attitude, and good
      judgment, tact, and sensitivity in all interpersonal interactions with all
      research staff, investigators, students and participants
    • Use explicit criteria, screen and identify eligible patients and maintain
      a paper and electronic log of eligible and non‐eligible patients;
      request clarification from clinical and program staff if uncertainty
      regarding eligibility; promptly notify clinical and project staff of
      eligible patients
    • Communicate with program sponsors, coordinators and collaborators
    • Maintain filing system for electronic and paper‐based patient records
    • Maintain compliance with HIPAA guidelines
    • Administer standardized surveys to patients or their proxies via
      phone, or via in‐patient, clinic or home visits
    • Call patients with reminders of their appointments
    • Conduct standardized assessments of patients via in‐patient, clinic or
      home visit
    • Coordinate weekly multidisciplinary meetings
    • Schedule meeting dates and notify JH PACT members of
      meeting times and distribute Zoom links and calendar invites
    • Keep a list of patients to be discussed at weekly meetings
  • Implement a workflow within Teams, Outlook and Epic to coordinate
    patient appointments.
  • Evaluate and implement patient referrals
  • Develop patient education and informational materials in Epic
    (smartphrases)
  • Coordinate and attend JH PACT Telemed clinic to initiate patient
    education
  • Coordinate post‐treatment patient follow‐up appointments and labs
  • Develop and maintain patient educational and informational
    materials (e.g. smartphrases that outline treatment schedules or
    medication instructions)

Liaison for the JH PACT Program

  • Coordinate with other Divisions and Departments regarding patient care and Program initiatives.
  • Work with the Clinical Director to maintain current online laboratory and imaging testing protocols for the Program.
  • Serve as an Epic nurse superuser and assist in training of other Program nurses and clinical support staff.
  • Maintain records of referrals as requested by physician staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Acceptable completion of the BMC Nursing credentialing process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of two years clinical experience in an ambulatory (outpatient) setting preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical record preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictablesituations within the patient care setting.

Starting Salary Range:$61,550.00 - $84,700.00 Annually; Commensurate with experience

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
