Job Description

The Hospital Information System Project Manager will assist in the planning and execution of a new electronic Health Information System (HIS) in our main Veterinary Teaching Hospital as well as providing ongoing operation support for the HIS in the Equine Medical Center and Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, all of which are under the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position will have a thorough understanding of hospital business processes, project management and the data systems that support them.

The project manager will be responsible for ensuring that the HIS implementation project meets designated milestones for the successful launch of the new HIS. Project management responsibilities will include specification development at the hospital and section level through workflow/business process analysis, vendor or design development management, and IT product/project implementation. This position will be responsible for delivering consulting and process analysis services post-implementation to ensure continued successful practice adoption and integration of the solution. Work will be done cross-functionally, including forming effective teams, to ensure that business and clinical goals are understood and appropriately considered through all project phases including solution design, configuration workshops, training and implementation. In addition to direct project consulting, this position will be responsible for defining practice and project management tools such as questionnaires, design and workflow templates and project plans to perform the job effectively and ultimately to provide analytics to document workflow change impact on mission (teaching, research and service) and financial goals of the hospitals. The successful candidate will be able to provide exemplary customer service to our internal and external customers by delivering key business deployments within tight timeframes while promoting efficiencies in the entire hospital system through business and clinical process development, project planning, training and change management. This position must be available to address concerns and issues potentially 24/7 and must successfully pass a background check.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Project Management/Business Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field (Associates Degree potentially acceptable with significant professional experience in lieu of the a Bachelor’s degree); Experience in project management coordination and/or information systems resource management; Previous experience with medical systems or terminology (human or veterinarian); Strong leadership and organizational skills; Ability to work independently; Ability to effectively analyze, problem solve, and implement solutions; Outstanding communication skills; Ambitious and self-motivated; ability to work under pressure handling multiple projects

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree; Considerable administrative/medical information management experience; Six Sigma or Lean certification from a professional recognized business curriculum;
