Position Summary:

The Radiation Oncology Physics Section at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Human Oncology, is seeking a faculty medical physicist with strong clinical skills to engage in radiation oncology physics activities. The successful candidate will participate in high-level clinical development and application of radiation oncology imaging, treatment planning, and delivery systems to further the advancement of treatment options and patient care. The Radiation Oncology Physics section currently employs 17 physicists and four physics residents, providing full clinical physics services to three locations with expansions to two additional locations expected.

The position will focus primarily on practicing clinical radiation oncology physics services provided at the UW Health Cancer Centers, including coverage in the department's outreach clinics which are physically separate from the University Hospital as necessary. Additional responsibilities, based on the candidate's interests and accomplishments, will include clinical research and development in alignment with the programmatic goals of the department, as well as teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Master's degree in Medical Physics or in a related field is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Experience performing quality assurance of and clinical support for conventional linear accelerator systems, brachytherapy with HDR remote after-loaders and unsealed sources, radiation dosimetry measurement equipment, radiotherapy treatment planning systems, advanced computed tomography imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and experimental data acquisition and analysis is desirable.

Proficiency with a broad range of clinical software systems is required, as are excellent written and verbal communication skills.

License or Certificate:

Candidates must be certified in Therapeutic/Radiation Oncology Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology, the American Board of Medical Physics, or the Canadian College of Medical Physics, or must be Board eligible. Board eligible candidates must achieve board certification within three years of hire.
