This is a new position to support the Newhouse NYC program and will be based in person at the Syracuse University property in New York City. This position oversees internship placement for students enrolled in the semester in New York program, organizes and executes the NYC mentor program along with various special programming events throughout the semester, maintains and updates websites and social media for program, and various administrative tasks in office. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) plus years of professional work experience within the communications industry is preferred
  • Any communications industry (journalism, advertising, PR, TV, etc).
  • Comfort with social media platforms
  • Interest in academia, or experience working in academia
  • Experience with mentoring students in some capacity

  • Strong writer and communicator
  • Oversee internship placement for students throughout the year, starting with editing resumes/cover letters (and liaising when the Career Development Center when appropriate) and communicate with students and HR representatives/company supervisors about internship opportunities.
  • Manage expectations of both students and HR managers, and meet with students one-on-one during the semester to ensure they are meeting their goals.
  • Execute and organize Newhouse NYC mentor program and other events and programming throughout the semester (Lunch and Learns, Alumni Office Hours, Internship Class events, etc.)
  • Maintain/update website and program and update all social content.
  • Assist professors with their classes, all communication, trainings, and any help they need with students.
  • Be available at the start of each class for 30 minutes to help with any problems (class starts at 6pm)
  • Administrative work in the office to keep the program on track (Oversee work study students, some calendar management for Newhouse NYC Director, catering, expenses, sending gifts/packages to speakers, etc.)
