Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Roofing and Building Envelope Technician is a maintenance position that performs work normally associated with Roofing and Building envelopes. Position will oversee corrective and preventive maintenance on roofs and associated systems. Troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, maintenance and repair of roofing systems including pitched roofs, flat roofs, built up roofs, shingles, EPDM, membrane, metal, slate, gutters, down spouts, porches as well as building envelope structures including (but not limited to) windows, doors, exterior wall structures, fascia, siding, EIFS (stucco), building foundations, crawlspaces, etc. Reviews design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with code and campus standards. Monitors and inspects contracted services on campus related to roofing work.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in the building maintenance trades, project management, roofing or building envelope work
  • Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

    Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Ability to predict and diagnose deficiencies, including water intrusion
  • Ability to organize, assign, and coordinate the technical building roof and envelope maintenance work, as needed, or instill services rendered by skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers assigned to a multi trade work team to repair and restore building
  • Ability to be responsible for assigned specific tasks and evaluates results
  • Ability to ensure operational building envelope and roof readiness and safety of work areas, tools, and equipment; conduct routine inspections; perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools
  • Ability to prepare estimates of time, labor and materials
  • Ability to ensure that assigned projects adhere to time and cost estimates
  • Ability to conduct and monitor work on site and notify supervisor of problems, scheduling, or deadline issues
  • Ability to perform high level work and/or project management of building roof and envelope maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and perform or supervise maintenance and repairs. Inspect completed job assignments for adherence to building codes and standards
  • Ability to prepare a variety of special and recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status
  • Ability to manage building and roof warranties and ensure the roof and building envelopes are in optimal condition at all times
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, collecting invoices, photographs, documentation in Aim, occupational safety, security, and other workplace standards
  • Ability to ensure safety training and that all work performed is compliant with safety standards at all times

    Position is considered mandatory personnel and can be required to work during emergency and/or weather events.

    Required Certifications or licensure

    Valid NC Drivers License or be able to obtain one within thirty days of hiring.
