The Social Media Specialist will be an integral part of the Department of Public Safety ( DPS ) team. This position will support the Communications Manager by creating a strategy for communicating with the campus community and beyond using various social media channels. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for working with the various public safety departments that report under the Chief, Campus Safety and Emergency Management Services ( CSEMS ) to communicate focus areas of community safety, crisis and emergency response, compliance with safety and security regulations, investigations, and campus law enforcement. Highlighting services that we provide, including proactive response to on-campus and off-campus personal safety issues, crime prevention, fire and life safety services, and emergency preparedness, response, and communication will be among the responsibilities of this position. This specialist will also work with the Division of Marketing and Communications to follow established brand standards, digital governance, and approach. Other necessities include: coordinate with University’s editorial calendar; coordinate content strategy and developing content consistent with University brand approach; create/share stories about DPS and the accomplishments of staff in coordination with Marketing and Communications teams; collaborate with Marketing and Communications to advance its university-wide marketing goals. Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- One (1) plus years of experience working in communications, marketing, or related field, or multiple related internships for a recent college graduate.

- Must successfully pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and participate in random drug testing. Job Specific Qualifications
- Demonstrate a working proficiency managing social media platforms for a business or entity.

- Demonstrate experience with web publishing tools and web-based facilities including developing content for websites and working within web content management systems ( CMS ).

- Experience with WordPress is a plus.

- Experience with media creation, video, audio, graphics, photography, design.

- Ability to work independently, manage sensitive information, and exercise prudent judgment in a fast-paced environment.

- Exceptional skills and demonstrated work experience in professional writing and editing for a variety of media, including all social media platforms.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to work with a wide variety of constituents.

- Individual must have the ability to work nights and weekends as needed to ensure appropriate coverage of events and activities. Responsibilities
• Create, manage and continuously improve an integrated content strategy that delivers strategic messaging to target audiences through appropriate social media channels.

• Build and maintain social content calendars to promote programs, events, and services that foster engagement in key audiences of interest.

• Generate the actual content (conduct interviews, take photos and videos, and write posts) to be shared on the various social media channels.

• Work with staff at DPS to be featured on the various channels.

• Develop, implement and manage the measurement of key analytics to assess the performance of all DPS social media accounts.

• Benchmark our presence in social media relative to peer institutions campus safety departments in higher education.

• Monitor global trends and stay current with emerging technologies, platforms and best practices related to strategic social media management, with an emphasis on higher education.

• Identify best practices in social media management and develop department policies and procedures for the campus safety presence in social media.

• Train other members of the unit on our social media policies and procedures.
