Ball State University’s Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position in social studies/history education available August 2022. The Ball State University Department of History serves over 300 undergraduate majors and some 20 graduate students. Undergraduate degree options include history, public history and social studies education. Faculty are committed to being teacher-scholars with active research agendas. Content areas of particular strength include social studies education, public history, global women’s and gender history, early modern global history and the long nineteenth century in the United States.

Description

In addition to teaching and research responsibilities in line with a tenure-track assistant professorship, the successful candidate will serve as director of the history/social studies teaching program: supervising student teachers, writing accreditation reports and supervising a degree option within the history department that involves interaction with other departments and programs and serves over 100 of our majors.

Minimum Qualifications

ABD in social studies education or related field; Ph. D. or Ed.D. in social studies education or related field expected from an accredited college or university by August 1, 2022; must have active research agenda and record of effective teaching, including experience teaching social studies at the middle or secondary school level.

Authorization to work in the US

Employer will consider sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in social studies education or related field; teaching experience at the college or university level; record of scholarship, including publication and/or presentation in primary area(s) of scholarship; experience supervising student teachers; license to teach social studies or history at the secondary level; record of building successful partnerships with K-12 schools; interest in civic engagement; interest in using digital approaches that help distill historical meaning from texts and artifacts and present historical analysis in a classroom setting; and record of service in relevant social studies/history and related associations.
