Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Current License from the NC Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists
  • Current G License from the NC Department of Public Instruction

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilites
  • Conduct screening and testing, obtain diagnostic information, analyze information and make recommendations regarding programs and services.
  • Develop individual education plans (IEPs) for each speech-language eligible child in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, LEA representative, and other pertinent professionals.
  • Plan therapy and use appropriate diagnostic tools and therapy techniques to support the curriculum.
  • Schedule interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Manage time, facilities, and resources to facilitate delivery of services.
  • Organize a program that addresses local school speech-language goals.
  • Assist school staff and parents with transitions between educational levels (e.g., preschool to elementary) and programmatic levels as students move along the continuum of services.
  • Consult and troubleshoot with school staff regarding difficult decisions involving the delivery of services and communication with parents and school-wide teams.
  • Attend meetings, such as staff meetings, IEP meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal mandates and standards of practice.

  • Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and methods of speech pathology and their proper application in the educational environment
  • Considerable knowledge of appropriate evaluating tools
  • Considerable knowledge of the equipment and assistive technology available to use in therapy
  • Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends and developments in the field of speech pathology
  • General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration
  • Skill in directly providing a wide range of treatment activities
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct on-the-job training and continuing education for a variety of individuals
  • Ability to screen, evaluate and provide required speech pathology services
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized programs
  • Ability to accurately document sessions
  • Ability to maintain adequate inventory of supplies
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop simple reports from those records
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Work confidentially with discretion
  • Consistently exhibit high standards of professional conduct
  • Be adept at communicating with a diverse population, such as school officials, parents, students, and vendors
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Work with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with others, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
