Position Details
The Office of Advancement builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan’s educational mission and financial goals.

The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development/fundraising; alumni & parent relations; and on and off campus events.

Research and Prospect Data Management is a strategic arm of the Wesleyan University’s Office of Advancement, focusing on the identification and qualification of donors using a variety of business intelligence techniques, including data analysis.

Reporting to the Director of Research and Prospect Data Management, the Advancement Data Analyst will play a key role in, providing data-informed recommendations for engagement and actionable insights.

Responsibilities include:

Leveraging data insight to interpret, synthesize and analyze prospect and donor outcomes to verify engagement hypotheses and direction of outreach, engagement and cultivation strategies.

Interpreting trends from the data and working closely with stakeholders to enable them to understand the dynamics behind the data.

Supporting the use of data management technology end-to-end; from data pipelines, to predictive analysis, data modeling and visualization.

Supporting colleagues with reconciling data, identifying and validating data sources, creating reports and presentations to summarize findings and influence actionable departmental decisions.

Analyzing data and identifying trends, patterns and anomalies to build predictive data models.

Reviewing and improving data collection and analytics processes, methods, and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Auditing and informing best practice for data collection strategies and propose future actions based on the insights learned.

Working with Information Services team and other team partners to help optimize the data collection process and generate process improvement ideas.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in data reporting/analysis, or an equivalent combination of training and experience or a combination of education and experience.

Strong knowledge of databases and data reporting software (ex: R, SPSS , Excel or other mainstream software packages) used for building statistical data models and for data visualization.

Demonstrated ability to learn new analytic, statistical and reporting software.

Ability to thrive in an environment of changing priorities and conflicting demands.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong analytical and causal reasoning mindset, and rigidity on statistical correctness.

Passion about business intelligence and curiosity to deep dive.

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the principles of development/fundraising at a higher education institution with emphasis on analysis.
