Department Summary

The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of degrees and emphases designed to provide several blends of mathematics and specialties to the student. The BA, BS, and MA programs prepare students to solve problems. The MAT degree emphasizes a broad mathematical curriculum that makes this graduate degree ideal for students planning a teaching career at the community college or secondary school level.

Job Summary

Front Office Reception

Provide front office support, including answering front desk phone, greeting visitors, assisting students with enrollment issues, clearing holds, checking transcripts and records, permitting, and enrolling students. Preparing book orders each semester in conjunction with faculty input. Maintain confidential student information as directed. Sort and distribute mail daily. Filing of various forms within the department and performing other related duties as assigned.


Process requests for material orders, prepare returned tests for scanning, scan, and print test results, and distribute completed materials to various schools within our servicing area. Supervise student assistant(s) as workload demands.

SOTE Support

Preparation, distribution, collection, processing, and submission to Faculty Affairs of SOTE packets each semester. Collecting materials for assessment, compliance, and evaluation, requiring maintenance of confidential part-time faculty department files. Maintain other confidential student and faculty information as directed.

Master of Arts Support

Serve as a backup individual to assist the MA (Master of Arts) coordinator with the maintenance and processing of forms within the graduate program.

Employment Status: Full-time, non-exempt, probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

Key Qualifications
  • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures.
  • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and, at times, creative solutions.
  • Ability to perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
  • Work often involves front-line contacts with a variety of campus and community individuals requiring active problem solving and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in effectively presenting standard information in writing.
  • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or its equivalent AND two (2) years of experience in general office clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Peoplesoft experience.
  • Microsoft Office experience preferred.

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $2,669 - $2,950 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $ 2,669 - $4,209 per month
