Job Summary:
This is a full time 40 hour per week hourly/non-exempt position. Responsible for providing mentoring to academically at-risk college students. Assists students by helping identify personal and academic barriers. Provides resources and referrals (inside and outside the college), goal setting and accountability to support college retention, graduation and transfer, and personal and educational development

Essential Functions:
1. Provides mentoring to students on academic probation or enrolled in transitional studies courses2. Provides in-take appointment to determine personal and academic goals and barriers3. Meets with students regularly to track progress 4. Provides referrals/assistance utilizing resources within the college such as tutoring, the writing center, food pantry, etc. 5. Assists all students in applying for and/or connecting to social services within the community such as housing, transportation, child care, food where necessary6. Is the colleges MIBridges referral/navigate partner7. Maintains relationships with outside social services referral sources8. Coordinates with students’ academic advisors and faculty to support the student9. Facilitates communication between departments to encourage student success

10. Monitors student progress utilizing a case management system and generates reports 11. Maintains records of student appointments and referrals12. Supports students through individual or small group life skills and academic workshops13. Serves on college related committees as necessary. 14. Participates in public relations, presentations, and/or orientation efforts as necessary

Other Duties:
1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Advising, works on supporting underserved and academically at-risk student populations with retention and success strategies.

Job Specifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; prefer Communication, Social Work or Psychology majors. Two years of related experience required. Experience directing or referring people to Community Services. Must be able to assist students with problem solving, goal setting and general life skills. Knowledge of College resources preferred. Positive attitude, ability and desire to motivate, and patience and confidentiality required. Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Must be willing and able to travel to all three campus locations to meet with students.
