Johns Hopkins School of Public Health seeks aResearch Assistant who will provide support to a multidisciplinary team in the Evidence-based Practice Center for multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Strong interpersonal skills are required to collaborate effectively in a team including the Principal Investigator, other lead investigators and other staff members.

This role acts as a Research Assistant to multiple Research Program Managers working on multiple evidence-based medicine projects, running pre-determined search strategies on electronic search databases such as PubMed; downloading available articles from on-line archives to an internal archive system; ordering articles not immediately available from the Hopkins library system; organizing data into a usable format; Data coordination and organization; exporting data from a web-based collection system into Excel spreadsheets and Access databases, assisting project coordinators in data cleaning and analysis, taking cleaned data and converting it into a usable format (Word files).

The Research Assistant also takes part in assisting with the generation of large evidence tables for draft and final report preparation; assisting with the generation and completion of draft and final reports. They will assist with scheduling meetings: on-site, and local and national conference calls as well as take part in the abstraction of data to data abstraction forms for future analysis on multiple projects. The candidate is responsible for light data entry and will also attend general meetings on all projects they are involved with. The applicant will be trained by Research Program Managers to complete the above tasks and training is not expected to be extensive. Once training is completed, the applicant will be expected to work independently and present a brief daily report to the Research Program Managers detailing progress. Other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as a research assistant to research managers working on multiple evidence-based medicine projects.
  • Conduct meta-analyses for senior investigators.
  • Interacting independently with data analysts and co-investigators to help refine data abstraction forms.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings: on-site, and local and national conference calls.
  • Participate in drafting and completion of evidence reports.
  • Assist with conceptualization and implementation of data abstraction.
  • Assist with organization of hourly research assistants completing data abstraction assignments
  • Abstraction of data to data abstraction forms for future analysis on multiple projects.
  • Light data entry.
  • The candidate will attend general meetings on all projects they are involved with.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Some related experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Must work well independently and be goal and deadline oriented. Strong organizational skills. A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to function independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must work well independently and be goal and deadline oriented.
  • Training or experience in statistical analysis programs is required.

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
