The Department of Neurology seeks aFinancial Managerto manage a variety of financial analysis, reporting and processing activities for the department. Some of these activities are very complicated and thus require strong analytical and financial skills. This individual will perform calculations and analysis in support of the departmental financial initiatives and goals, oversee the development and monitoring of budgets, as well as provide management of financial transactions and administrative processes involving clinical and affiliated funds, endowments, government and private grants, gifts and general funds accounts. They will be responsible for producing monthly financial reports and providing sophisticated financial analyses to Neurology leadership. These reports will include and are not limited to Clinical and Administrative Profit & Loss statements, JAA reports, GF reports, All Funds reports, Divisional reports and all other reports created/assigned. An analysis of monthly departmental expenses will be completed including detailed schedules of income and income and expense variances to budget. Budget forecasting of annual revenue and expense and trends analysis will be completed.

The Financial Manager will also produce multi-year forecasts for budgeting and strategic planning and assist in preparation of Fiscal Year budget, and provide leadership to finance staff in analyzing, defining and improving business processes in the office and solve complicated financial issues. They will define and measure goals for finance operation and be able to define and monitor financial controls that ensure quality processing within the finance function. This individual will develop a strong understanding of culture vision and goals of the Department of Neurology and deploy advanced capabilities to improve finance operations is expected of this position. Report to Assistant Director of Finance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex financial data and extract and define relevant information.
  • Interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
  • Oversee preparation and accounting of approved budgets; ensure that expenditures for budgets are monitored and that monthly reports are prepared to maintain balanced accounts.
  • Assist others throughout the division with complex financial and data analysis.
  • Report monthly, quarterly and annually on the financial and administrative performance on projects within the division.
  • Develop management, narrative, and statistical reports.
  • Develop and oversee maintenance of budget monitoring systems.
  • Develop complex financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
  • Monitor, identify, and communicate over-expenditures to faculty and administrative staff.
  • Develop and implement action plans to resolve funding shortfalls.
  • Manage cash receipts as required to maintain accuracy and timely posting of payments.
  • Keep abreast of laws and regulations that apply to research, education and clinical operations and particular staff functions within dedicated areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain sufficient professional expertise in all areas of financial and administrative management to ensure compliance with university and/or agency regulations policies and procedures and restrictions.
  • Confer with appropriate internal and external administrative offices to ensure that required procedures are followed.
  • Provide instruction and answer questions relating to budget procedures and serve as liaison between the business office, controller’s office and faculty operations.
  • Identify budget issues, provide alternative solutions, and resolve problems as required.
  • Monitor and approve expenditures throughout the budgetary period.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of policies and procedures to assist employees with administrative processes throughout Johns Hopkins University.
  • Facilitate access to appropriate financial and administrative systems as requested.
  • Prepare and process payroll documents needed to implement payroll/personnel transactions.
  • Calculate and communicate payroll adjustments as required.
  • Facilitate special checks and reimbursements where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all effort forms are completed accurately and timely.
  • Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • Act as resource for all other financial analysts and be responsible for training staff on BW reporting and processing SAP documents.
  • Will indirectly supervise, train and collaboratively evaluate the performance of all financial analysts and others working in the Neurology department that have responsibilities directly related to finance. (These individuals will have a direct reporting relationship to their divisional administrator, but division leadership requires the technical expertise of the Financial Manager to effectively manage and mentor the financial personnel.)
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or other related field required.
  • Five years related financial/accounting and financial management experience, e.g., planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, and controlling monetary resources for large programs and complex budgets.
  • Master's in a related field may substitute for some experience.

Starting Salary Range: $68,456 - $94,063 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
