Job Description

This position is instrumental in coordinating efforts for outreach to attract and recruit diverse undergraduate students, including initiatives to support underrepresented minority (URM) and underserved (US) students. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for DEIB, with dotted line reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, the incumbent will coordinate undergraduate student recruitment planning, activities, events, communications, and reporting. The individual will support and develop pre-collegiate summer programs designed to introduce high school students from diverse backgrounds to various fields of business. The Assistant Director will partner and communicate effectively with various stakeholders including Pamplin’s Office of Undergraduate Programs, Pamplin’s Academic Departments, Pamplin Community Committee, VT Office of Undergraduate Admissions, VT Office for Inclusion and Diversity, high schools, and community organizations on recruitment efforts to inspire and encourage diverse students to earn business degrees. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the maintenance of Pamplin’s prospective student database and records, SLATE. This role must demonstrate ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. The Assistant Director is knowledgeable and has experience managing issues specific to URM and US student populations and is committed to continuous learning to acquire knowledge and skills to support these populations. This candidate must demonstrate passion and be invested in the advancement of pre-college and undergraduate student DEIB efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities
•Coordinate with Pamplin’s Office of Undergraduate Programs and Academic Departments, VT Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Pamplin Community Committee, VT Office for Inclusion and Diversity, etc. to develop and implement a holistic undergraduate student recruitment plan for Pamplin, with a heightened focus on attracting and recruiting URM and US undergraduate students.
•Assist the Assistant Dean for DEIB with developing college-wide plans to enhance the outreach and recruitment of URM and US undergraduate students, including coordinating outreach activities with Pamplin’s Office of Undergraduate Programs and Academic Departments, Pamplin Community Committee, VT Office of Undergraduate Admissions, VT Office for Inclusion and Diversity, etc. to attract diverse undergraduate students to Pamplin.
•In conjunction with PRISM, develop marketing communications and campaigns for Pamplin recruitment events and activities, and scholarships.
•Develop touchpoint and communication strategies to reduce enrollment summer melt.
•Build partnerships with Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Counselors (VACRAO), high school counselors and personnel, high school business student organizations (e.g., FBLA, DECA), and community colleges to build pathways for pre-college students in to Pamplin.
•Coordinate Pamplin’s community engagement and involvement with Virginia nonprofit youth serving organizations (e.g., Partnership for the Future).
•Coordinate various summer recruiting and pre-college and access programs.
•Coordinate the college’s involvement with Pamplin and university yield events (e.g., VACRAO, Fall and Spring Open House, Hokie Focus, High School Spring Break visits, and Facebook Live Events. etc.).
•Serve as the assessment coordinator for recruitment programs.
•Manage Pamplin ambassadors, including training ambassadors and delegating assignments.
•Track student engagement and assist in the collection of data, data analyses, and report generation to inform, evaluate, and assess Pamplin’s efforts.
•Participate in additional service, community engagement, and college outreach efforts, which will require working evenings and weekends.
•Travel is expected.
•All duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean for DEIB.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Professional experience with outreach, recruitment, admissions, and program coordination. Experience organizing programs and initiatives that promote student diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Candidates MUST have a passion and be invested in the advancement of pre-college and undergraduate student diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with an advance degree, experience coordinating pre-collegiate programs, diversity and/or multicultural initiatives in higher education and admissions/enrollment management. Other ideal characteristics include experience with SLATE software, the ability to build consensus and relate effectively to a wide variety of people, the ability to work with colleagues to implement a strategic plan based on a shared vision, a collaborative leadership style, excellent organizational and managerial skills, strong communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver programs and presentations.
