Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The successful candidate for this position will be someone who can build and maintain an excited, dedicated, driven, team who enjoy their experience. The director provides the overall direction and leadership of the office by developing strategic plans and managing staff. The director will serve as a steward and role model for creating festive and memorable experiences for students. The director will work with their team to live and maintain the mission, vision, and values of Student Engagement.

The director will supervise three coordinators: two coordinators who advise the fraternity and sorority councils and programming, and one coordinator who oversees student organizations and advises the Student Programming Board. Specifically, the director will advise two major campus programs: BronchoThon (UCO’s dance marathon) and Homecoming, advise the Student Engagement Council, and execute the Student Engagement Executive Director selection and training process. The director will also work closely with the staff who oversee New Broncho Orientation programs, Cheer and Dance, Broncho Family Programs, WinterGlow, and Spirit Teams.

The director will serve as the financial manager for all programming and office budgets in Student Engagement, including budgets for student employees and graduate students. Other duties include coordinating special projects, training sessions, and staff development. Some evenings and weekends will be expected.

Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.

Position Overview: Develop, implement, and manage activities, programs, and services related to student organizations, student leadership programs and other campus activities. Develop and execute short and long-term plan, goal and objectives for programs to ensure alignment with university goals. Monitor and report on participation and satisfaction and recommend improvements. Develops, implements, and authorizes the expenditures of department and fee-funded group budgets. Oversee activities and budgets of student fee funded student organizations. Supervise staff, student employees, and volunteers. Oversee safety and compliance.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Experience Required: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. 7+ years of experience, post bachelor’s degree, with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.

Experience Preferred: Master's degree in counseling or college student personnel. 4-6 years of experience, post graduate school. Experience in fraternity and sorority life advising is highly preferred. Experience in developing and implementing educational, social, and cultural programs. Experience in supervision of graduate or full-time staff. Experience in budget management, working with a diverse student and staff population and advising student organizations.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Computer proficiency preferably in Microsoft Office. Good supervisory, report preparation and project management skills. Accounting and budgeting skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to hire and supervise employees. Ability to make policy and procedure decisions. Must be detail-oriented.
