Governors State University is seeking to hire a Police Dispatcher for the Department of Public Safety.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Monitor the campus public safety emergency base radio and other radio systems in the dispatch center.
  2. Address all calls for service; dispatch calls efficiently according to the nature of the call.
  3. Conduct Law Enforcement Agency Data System ( LEADS ) inquiries, coordinated and conducted through the GSU Police Department 911 Center and in-house LEADS system.
  4. May act as the emergency communication liaison between Governors State University and Federal, State, County, and Local, Public Safety agencies.
  5. Provide general reception to visitors, students, faculty and staff, who enter the Department of Campus Public Safety.
  6. Complete data entry for Campus Public Safety.
  7. May oversee the student workforce assigned to the Campus Public Safety dispatch center.
  8. Shift-related functions: Each shift will have an assigned police dispatcher. Each police dispatcher will be given additional duties by the Director or Designee, which may include a multitude of office functions and data management.
  9. Monitor University electronic door access system.
  10. Monitor campus video systems.


Salary: $38,983.56.

This is an unionized position. Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be a resident of the state of Illinois

2. High School Diploma

3. No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude

4. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

5. Must be at least 21 years of age upon employment.

6. Must successfully maintain State of Illinois
Public Safety Telecommunicator certification.

7. Must successfully complete all internal police dispatch and related training.
