Position Summary:

This position provides technical support to the in-patient and out-patient activities of the School of Veterinary Medicine's UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The position requires knowledge of sterile product preparation, appropriate drug therapy uses, product identification (human vs. veterinary), problem-solving abilities and communication skills. The incumbent must be able to function independently in the full realm of technical responsibilities, as well as in interactions with UWVC clients and clinicians. The position functions under the supervision of a UWVC Pharmacist.

Pharmacy Technician Certification is preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations. Knowledge of standard safety and quality control practices. Basic computer skills.

Ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, effective teamwork and problem solving skills, and is proficient in basic math. Experience working in a pharmacy and pharmacy technician certification is preferred.

License or Certificate:

Pharmacy Technician Certification is preferred

Additional Requirements:
Ability to handle and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products, including but not limited to the use of mortar and pestle and syringes. Ability to read and interpret prescription requests accurately.

Entry level candidates are new to the pharmacy technician field (less than two years experience) and bring minimal skills and expertise to the position.
Objective level candidates have been employed as a pharmacy technician for a minimum of 2 years and bring knowledge and experience to the position.

Work Schedule:

Typically 10:15am-6:45pm M-F with regular weekend hours. Occasional rotating holiday coverage required. Hours are subject to change based on department need. Potential for variable on-call hours as required by the hospital.
