Position Summary:

The Department of Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in bacteriology/microbiology (http://www.bact.wisc.edu/). This is an academic (9-month) faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking candidates whose research addresses important questions at the forefront of microbiology in any domain of life. The candidate should place an emphasis on molecular mechanisms underlying their area of research. The position carries a commitment to the three functions of research, instruction, and outreach/service, as appropriate to the position and rank.

Principal Duties:

1) Carry out a vigorous, collaborative, externally funded research program at the forefront of any modern area of microbiology in any domain of life.

2) Teach undergraduate, graduate, or professional students consistent with the tenure home department's teaching mission and portfolio. Provide support for education within graduate programs.

3) Contribute and participate in professional, university, and community service appropriate to rank.

4) Contribute to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department, college, and university. Promote an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, or closely related field is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least 2 years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent required prior to start of faculty position. Teaching, including curriculum development, is beneficial as is evidence of ability to secure independent funding.
