Visiting Assistant Professor of Bands
VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BANDS
Missouri Southern State University seeks applicants for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Bands in the Department of Music for a one-year appointment starting the fall of 2021. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Bands will direct the Universitys Lion Pride Marching Band in the fall (Concert Band in the spring) and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (fall and spring) in rehearsals, performances, and other related activities. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Bands will oversee the Department of Musics band program, including recruitment, instrument/uniform inventory, and personnel. In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will continue the tradition of engaging current and potential donors in cooperation with the Missouri Southern Foundation. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Bands, in conjunction with the Music Departments instrumental faculty, will also maintain collegial relationships with local high school band directors, the Universitys Athletic Department, volunteers, other academic units, alumni, and community members.
Although a terminal degree in music (DMA or PhD) is preferred, a masters degree in music (MME, MM) is required. Academic credentials will include an emphasis in conducting and/or music education, with a specific interest in candidates who have demonstrated success in leading marching bands and concert bands/wind ensembles at the secondary level. Proven experience and success as an administrator of band programs, including budget, travel, etc. is a must.
