Master Carpenter

Chatham University has an immediate opening for a Master Carpenter. As a member of the Maintenance department, the Master Carpenter will perform skilled carpentry trade-work in the construction, maintenance, repair and alteration of campus structures and equipment. All work is subject to spot-checking and inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade. .

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct and repair structural woodwork such as framing walls, floors and ceilings
  • Repair and install doors and windows and associated hardware, install and repair counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, and building framework.
  • Perform masonry work and repairs and concrete work
  • Perform work to assist other trades
  • May perform or assist in performance of any of the following: preparation of cost estimates, preparation of material orders, maintenance of records and preparation of reports.


  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of 6-years' experience of actual work in the trade including apprentice or vocational training
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret diagrams
  • Skilled in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of the carpentry trade
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license

Physical Requirements: Carpentry work will be physically demanding requiring lifting heavy weights, manually transporting tools, supplies and equipment, and ability to work on ladders, scaffolding and staging.
