Position Summary

The Head coach for the men’s golf program is responsible for all aspects of the Washburn University Golf Program. This includes operating within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Washburn University, the MIAA conference and the NCAA .

Essential Job Functions of Position

Recruiting
  • Scouting and recruiting top-quality student-athletes to the Golf program. Must be able to work with University faculty and staff to develop professional relationships which will assist and support recruiting efforts.




Coaching
  • Determines and implements strategies necessary to motivate student-athletes to maximize levels of individual and team performance.
  • Prepares, organizes and executes effective practices in and out of season as allowed by the NCAA and MIAA rules.
  • Tracks academic progress of all student-athletes in the Golf Program. Establishes study programs and enforces requirements for class attendance and course make-up work. Builds relationships that demonstrate interest with each student-athlete and provides support for athletic and academic success.


Administration -
  • Determines and develops annual budget needs and presents budget requests to the Athletics Director for inclusion in the Department’s annual budget requests.
  • Authorizes and monitors budget expenditures to ensure compliance with authorized spending categories for the Golf Program’s budget. Communicates and enforces compliance with all NCAA, MIAA and University rules and regulations.
  • Makes travel arrangements for the Golf team, allowing for timely arrival for practice and competition while minimizing time away from classes and costs to the University.
  • Actively seeks ways to develop new methods and strategies that will ensure the continued success of the University’s Golf Program Fundraising.
  • Conducts fundraising activities to help and support the Golf Program and any special needs, events, or tournaments of the Golf Program.
  • Assists with other fundraising events sponsored by the Athletics Department.


Performs other job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of successful coaching, recruiting or playing experience.



Preferred
  • Master’s degree.
  • Head coaching or collegiate coaching experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of MIAA and NCAA DII rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated organizational and management ability.
  • Proven ethical character and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.


Licenses, Certifications & Registrations

A valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets the University standard.
