Program Performing Arts Requisition Number 051129 Position Title Performing Arts - Part-time Lecturer in Theater/Acting University Mission Placing students at the center of the educational experience, California State University Channel Islands provides undergraduate and graduate education that facilitates learning within and across disciplines through integrative approaches, emphasizes experiential and service learning, and graduates students with multicultural and international perspectives. Diversity Commitment CI is committed to recruiting individuals who are dedicated to furthering inclusive excellence in our campus community. We seek to enhance our diverse University population, welcoming people from all backgrounds, to sustain an environment in which all can thrive, create, work and learn.

The CI Performing Arts Program faculty and staff stand in solidarity with our Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander students, our LGBTQIA students, our neurodivergent students, our Deaf students, our students with disabilities, and our students who are first in their families to attend college. We commit ourselves to creating a space where these students are empowered to fulfill their artistic and educational goals. To do so, we must first acknowledge the reality that bodies like those of these students have been systematically excluded from--and too often made invisible in--performing arts histories and institutions, including our institutions of higher education. We also recognize that there is always more work to be done and therefore further commit ourselves to dismantling racist, (hetero)sexist, ableist, and other marginalizing structures; to re-examining and re-envisioning our courses, curricula, grading policies, and program culture; and to creating policies and procedures that are anti-racist, equitable, just, and humane. Appointment The positions we expect to fill are contingent upon enrollment growth and availability of funds. Position Description / Responsibilities The Performing Arts Program at CI invites qualified applicants for the Spring 2021 semester to teach Acting I/Acting II, an online, combined-level, hybrid synchronous/asynchronous course for majors and non-majors. Additional opportunities to teach other activity courses in the future are dependent on qualifications and enrollment growth.

CI is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a significant proportion of first-generation college students enrolled. Many of our students work full time while carrying a full load of classes. The successful candidate should be committed to and experienced in designing and teaching courses with equity, excellence, and empathy in mind.
