Position Description / Responsibilities We are looking for a full-time Geology lecturer to teach Historical and Physical Geology. Several Geology courses support the Liberal Studies and the Environmental Science and Resource Management Programs. The Liberal Studies Program includes a geology content course entitled "Foundations of Earth Science" (GEOL 300) which is a requirement for the pre-credential preparation in the Teaching and Learning Option. This course involves an integrated lecture-laboratory which meets twice a week for three-hours each. Students participate in activities, which can be adapted to the K-8 classroom. Instructors are responsible for laboratory experiment development, lab preparation, and lecture preparation. The four-unit course carries a five-unit teaching load to the instructor. Minimum Degree Requirements A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Geology or a related field. Required Qualifications Required qualifications include a commitment to student success and a student-centered education; a minimum of one year teaching experience in Geology or a related discipline; experience with, and commitment to, working in a multiethnic, multilingual, and multicultural environment; and the ability to collaborate with other instructors teaching sections of this course.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Geology or a related discipline; at least one year of experience teaching Geology at the college level; a record of effective teaching with a variety of appropriate methodologies; a teaching philosophy; interdisciplinary teaching experience; experience in the use of innovative instructional strategies and technologies; and experience with curriculum, laboratory, and program development in Geology.
